TRANSPOLIS is the unique smart city lab in Europe dedicated to innovative transportation systems and road equipment. TRANSPOLIS offers a 200-acre site for the reinvention of urban mobility solutions through systemic innovation and strategic partnerships.
History
TRANSPOLIS S.A.S. is a privately held services company created in 2011 by 7 major international players: RENAULT TRUCKS, COLAS, AIXAM (POLARIS Inc. USA), VIBRATEC, EVE SYSTEM, ADETEL and the research center IFSTTAR. Our mission is to help our clients innovate in the field of urban mobility and intelligent transportations systems.
Before 2011, TRANSPOLIS has been incubated by the french cluster LUTB transport & mobility systems, which is now CARA, European Cluster for Mobility Solutions.
The commitment of the founders reflects their understanding of the urgency to design and implement major innovations that will anticipate future needs in urban mobility and transportation systems.
TRANSPOLIS is developing the UNIQUE SMART CITY LAB at scale 1 in EUROPE for urban mobility and innovative transportation systems, a place where French and international groups innovate with a systemic approach (vehicles, energy, networks and telecoms, road equipment, infrastructure, IoT...).
2014 |
TRANSPOLIS merged with LIER which provides services to design and test road furniture. The French road equipment trade association SER joined the Board. TRANSPOLIS provides services to test vehicles with a dedicated proving ground, in partnership with RENAULT TRUCKS. |
2015 |
TRANSPOLIS secures a round of funding with new shareholders. TRANSPOLIS starts work on its new 200-acre test platform. TRANSPOLIS provides vehicle testing services on the site of RENAULT TRUCKS La Valbonne. |
2016 |
TRANSPOLIS signs a partnership with Objenious, IoT subsidiary of Bouygues Telecom |
2017 |
New shareholders enter the consortium : HIKOB and Fédération Française de Carrosserie |
2018 |
BERTHELET enters the consortium. The proving ground welcomes its first customers. |

The scientific committee of Transpolis consists of experts and meets with three main missions:
- Contribute to Transpolis’s reflections to encourage research and development shared among its teams
- Federate projects, in accordance with the defined long term vision for research subjects
- Develop the necessary infrastructure for the realization of these projects
